Where is SPCAKK located?

We have an office, used to handle administration and membership matters:

    SPCA KK
    Borneobest House
    Lot 3A12, Level 3
    Central Shopping Plaza
    Jalan Banjaran
    88200 Kota Kinabalu

Located at Central Shopping Plaza (coming from Jalan Penampang, after KK high school, make a right at the roundabout and go past a row of shops - 7 Eleven, Pick and Pay etc) until you reach a colourful building. This is Central Plaza. Our office is on the third floor. At the escalator, turn left and look for Borneobest House).

Our SPCA members are not always in the office - we have a temporary staff to help with inquiries and such. You can leave donations here - dry/canned food, newspapers, towels etc or make monetary contributions. DO NOT leave animals here. Office is open Mon - Fri 10 am to 4pm

Is SPCAKK a registered NGO?

Yes, we were officially registered on Feb 14. 2006.

Where is the SPCA shelter?

We do not have official shelters at the moment. Rescued animals are kept at private properties. If you wish to adopt or volunteer at these locations, please contact the Rescue and Inspectorate committee via our website.

We are hoping to take over the DBKK Dog Pound in Jalan Tuaran/Inanam. This is the holding area for dogs that have been captured by DBKK and are awaiting their owners to claim them. SPCAKK is planning to take over in terms of managing the animals' welfare - feeding, rehoming, medical etc. We are still waiting for DBKK to finalise the contract.

Why be a member? What benefits do I receive?

Above all, your membership gives SPCAKK a voice - we believe in strength in numbers and the bigger we are, the louder we will be heard by the government and authorities! Also as a member, we are working towards member discounts at selected outlets throughout KK - This is happening VERY soon so stay tuned! Members will also receive a monthly e-newsletter.

Where can I leave my unwanted puppies and kittens?

As we mentioned, SPCAKK does not have a proper shelter at the moment and we discourage the 'dumping' of animals. There is a common misperception that SPCAKK is a 'dumping ground' for unwanted animals! If you have an urgent case of unwanted puppies and kittens, you can contact us and we will see if we can rehome it. Please understand that with limited resources and space, SPCAKK cannot take in all cases at the moment.

In this light, we URGE PEOPLE to spay and neuter their cats and dogs to avoid over population. We are facing an urgent stray animal issue and spaying and neutering are ways to curb this problem.

Interesting fact: A pair of cats (male and female) and its offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in 6 years and a pair of dogs and its offspring can produce 67,000 puppies!

How do I report animal abuse and cruelty cases?

Call or SMS our hotline 013 856 9100. If you can support the claims with photos, even better. You can also email us at our website. Please note that the line is not active 24 hours a day - if your calls are not attended to immediately, please send an SMS and we will get back to you.

What happens after I make a report?

SPCAKK's inspectorate will look into the case and where possible, bring in the authorities (ie Wildlife Department, DBKK etc). In serious cases, a police report will be made and the offenders may face a penalty. Our priority is also to remove the animal from the abusive situation.

I don't have time to volunteer but I would like to help or contribute. What can I do?

Signing up as a member is good start. You can also donate old newspapers, towels, bowls, collars, leashes, dry/canned food, bags of rice, cages (old or new), dog/cat shampoos, treats or anything else you feel we might need. You can drop off all these things at our office or where possible, arrange for our committee to pick up the goods within the KK area.

Be sure to check out our VOLUNTEER LIST - chances are, there are some ways you can help now and then (graphic design work, legal expertise, sponsor printing materials, organize events etc.)

A little help goes a long way!

You can start by visiting our adoption page either on Facebook (SPCA Kota Kinabalu Adoption Page) or our website. Here you can browse for animals up for adoption.
