In late March 2009, Kiki showed signs of slowing down: she was not as enthusiastic when I took her for morning run on the beach (28 March 2009). The following Saturday two Saturdays as usual I visited her and took her on her leash for a 10 minute walk around her housing area. Her fur was dropping and she was not eating much. Her Uncle Dennis took her to the DVS for a jab (3 consecutive days). On Saturday, 11 April 2009, I visited her again and this time she was not even bothered to get up from under the car in the garage to greet me. Alarmed and fearful, I immediately decided to take her to SAMC for a complete check up again.
She was found to be still having blood parasite, gallstone in the bladder and her heart was very weak. I was thinking, perhaps it was due to her bowel movements where she would just control herself until taken out of the compound to step on the grass before she did her business. She was given 3 type of injections: to treat blood parasite, to control her heart problem and another which I could not remember now. Based on the test results, Kiki was given 2 weeks to either get better or to go to heaven!. A friend of mine, Meg, who shares her house with many homeless, abused, abandoned, injured dogs and cats and had befriended Kiki from Lok Kawi, offered to take Kiki in. So Kiki moved in to her place on Saturday, 25 April 2009. Kiki responded well with the new environment and although not having much energy and no appetite for food, at least she is having enough grass and soil to walk on and lie down, elements she was so used to. It is hoped that she will recover from her illness and be well again.
