Pet Care: Worms

From time to time, dogs and cats can become infested with worms.

Problems: Dull, lifeless coat; swelling of the abdomen; weight loss; pneumonia; diarrhoea.

Heartworm: This is a common disease in Malaysia.

Transmission: From infected dogs to healthy dogs by mosquitoes through blood sucking. Heartworm larvae swim through the bloodstream to the heart, start growing, reproducing and occupying the heart chambers, heart valves and main vessels.

Intestinal and lung worms: One of the most common roundworms, Toxocara Canis, is all too easily transmitted to children, where it can cause potentially permanent eye damage.

Solution: Together with heartworm, a dozen different species of roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms may infect cats and dogs in Malaysia. Fortunately, the solution is easy and effective, that is simply by giving your pet worming tablets regularly.
